STUMPYS BAY CAMPGROUND # 3
NUMBER OF CAMPSITES: 20
GPS: -40.5243, 148.1351
THE VIBE: 9.5
Located in the Mt William National Park in north eastern Tasmania, the Stumpys Bay campground is located right alongside the beach. While this gives a great location for some quality fishing, it also comes with the downside of having to fight the strong winds. The picnic tables, fire pits and wildlife add a nice touch to this camping ground. National Park and campsite fees apply at this campground.
The Stumpys Bay camping ground is reasonably easy to access. Head north east from Gladstone via C843, C845 and Forester Kangaroo Drive. Turn east 6km north of the park entrance. The road into the campsite is suitable for a two wheel drive and caravan, but the gravel road seems to go on forever. The positive is that the road in is quite well signed once you reach the national park.
The camping ground offers around twenty individual campsites. Grab a sheltered spot to keep out of the windy conditions.
The obvious choice here is the fishing off the beach. Swimming is not recommended. The location provides a good launching pad for a number of walks as well.
Best Time To Go
As with most of the campsites located in Tasmania, we recommend you visit this one in the warmer months.
