Located in the Otway National Park on the south coast of Victoria, Aire River is located around a ten minute drive from the small town of Hordern Vale. Aire River offers all the benefits of a camping ground on the coast and on a river, including swimming, fishing, boating and surfing.
The Aire River camping ground is very easy to access. The camping ground is located 6km off the Great Ocean Road, with the turnoff approximately 24km from Lavers Hill and Apollo Bay. The road into the camping ground is a gravel road but can easily be accessed by a two wheel drive and caravan.
The camping ground offers around one hundred individual campsites. The camping ground is divided into the east and west side of the river. The best spot is on the east side on the left hand side as you enter through the gates. The east side provides a lot more protection from the elements, but the west side provides a better surface to camp on.
Given the location of the Aire River campground, it offers numerous activities. Activities available for campers include fishing, swimming and boating in the river, and fishing and surfing in the ocean. There is a little boat ramp on the east side of the river to launch small watercraft. The walk down to the beach can be very tiresome but well worth it.
Best Time To Go
Given the campground is located near the beach, it is recommended that the campground is visited during the warmer months.
